Pets play an important role in many people’s lives, but the realities of caring for them—and deciding to add one—change as we age.
What most people don’t realize is how life transitions such as downsizing, health changes, or moving into senior living affect pet ownership decisions. Common misconceptions include believing pets will always be accommodated, that caregiving demands remain manageable over time, or that adding a pet later in life does not require careful consideration.
This seminar takes a practical look at pets through life’s transitions. We will discuss relocating with pets, safety and caregiving considerations, and how pet policies vary across senior living communities. The discussion also includes planning for pets that may outlive their owners and how to evaluate whether adding a new pet fits current and future circumstances.
Attendees will learn how to think clearly about the responsibilities of pet ownership, the role of support services such as dog walkers and pet sitters, and how to assess whether keeping or adding a pet aligns with lifestyle, energy level, housing options, and long-term plans.
